Cuba tourism is still in it’s infancy but is growing fast as a major if not the biggest source of income for the country. Since the government was overthrown by Fidel Castro and his communist party the country was placed under an embargo by the American government and no one was allowed to trade with Cuba under the threat of severing ties with the American traders. This meant that tourism became extinct and the country was pretty much cut off from the rest of the world, except for Russia, China and other communist countries.
So there was virtually no tourism at all. With no hotels or modern conveniences available the country had nothing to offer the traveller who expects to holiday in the lap of luxury, but all that is now, thankfully, changing and more and more people are setting off for the island of Cuba.
Cuba tourism is becoming big business with luxury hotels and water sport facilities being developed all over the island. The hotel facilities are being brought into the twenty first century and attracting people from all over the world. But it is not all plain sailing at the moment, some of the down sides of cuba tourism is that there are only two cash machines on the island that can give you money but if you are in an American bank they won’t deal with you so make sure that you take cash which can be American Dollars or converted pesos.
