Descriptionhotels map

Holguin is the regional capital and home to an important airport with direct flight links to both London and Havana. The city itself holds little of interest to visitors and is either used as an overnight stopover or by-passed altogether.

There is very little to actually see and do in Holguin, especially compared to Cuba's other towns and cities, although its a pleasant enough place to spend a few hours.

There are a number of small private restaurants and bars in the centre

Getting There

Due to the proximity of Guardalavaca, an hour's drive away, Holguin is well served by domestic flights with up to 3 flights a day between Havana & Holguin. The tourist coach service that runs between Havana & Santiago also stops in Holguin.

Accommodation options in Holguin itself are very limited with just a couple of mediocre 2* hotels, the Pernik & El Bosque. A better option is the Mirador de Mayabe which is located in attractive countryside a short drive away. A 30 minute drive away, in the coastal town of Gibara, is the recently renovated Ordono Hotel which is the nicest option in the region.
