This charming little town is located about 20 minutes drive off the main highway and is famous for its spa facilities which are much used by the Cuban medical authorities. However, tourists are more than welcome to make use of the facilities with a range of treatments available at very low prices. The town itself is an attractive colonial era community centred around the main square.

Excursions

Just 15 minutes drive from town is Parque La Guira, home to the atmospheric ruins of a 19th century gothic mansion and its lovely gardens. Also nearby are the caves where Che Guevara made his HQ during the Cuban Missile Crisis

Apart from the hotel restaurant, the only other options for eating out are to ask around and see if a Cuban family will prepare a meal for you

Getting There

The only way to get to San Diego is by hire car. The town is located about 1hrs drive from both Havana & Vinales
